Their little wrinkly toes. Their sweet pathetic cries. Their miniature little fingers, and the way they all can fit around your one seemingly massive finger.
I put out a model call last Tuesday for a couple “Fresh 48 sessions.” A Fresh 48 session is a lifestyle session capturing baby in the first 48 hours of their life, at the hospital or your home. It is a time to document all the “firsts” of the baby, the events of the hospital and all the emotions of the family members that are present. I was hoping to get a few babies to practice on, and after much response from our Facebook post last Tuesday, I got two babies to photograph just two days later!
So the first Fresh 48 session I did last Thursday was for the Nickels, who brought Mr. Kohen Nickel into the world at 12:30 pm at Wesley Hospital. Kohen was their fourth child and third boy! It was so fun to see the siblings all over the place– playing, loving on baby and trying to “help” in their own way; to see Maeve and her husband handling everything so gracefully; and of course to photograph sweet baby Kohen in all his chunkiness!
The nurse did have to prick baby while I was in there- poor thing- but it allowed me to capture big brothers rush over out of concern, and momma holding Kohen’s little hand during the process. There’s nothing more heart breaking than when baby is hurting and you can’t do a thing for them!
But at the end of the day, little Kohen was a “superhero.” He and his siblings all sat in capes as big brothers and sis gazed at their sweet new addition to the family. Welcome to the world Kohen!
